Hygiene
Dental hygiene appointments are an integral part of your oral health. Dental Hygienists are trained in preventing gum disease and tooth decay and in the professional removal of plaque and tartar from difficult to reach areas of the mouth.
Your dental hygienist will review your medical history, current oral hygiene regime and any concerns you may have with your mouth. A thorough examination of your teeth,
gums and the soft tissues of your mouth will be carried out. Treatment will include gently removing plaque and tartar from the teeth using ultrasonic scalers, hand instruments and polishing.
Success of treatment is greatly dependent on excellent home care therefore you will be given a tailored oral hygiene regime to follow in order to maintain excellent plaque control at home. This may include toothbrushing techniques, flossing and/or interdental brushes. Thorough daily plaque removal is essential in order to help prevent gum disease and tooth decay which if untreated can lead to pain, mobility and eventual tooth loss.
Based on your oral condition your dentist will discuss the frequency of future hygiene appointment intervals.
